Album Info: | One year after Conrail’s startup, Enola’s former all PC black diesels and electrics were joined by EL and RDG units adorned in original paint, or with a hastily applied CR stencil. Conrail was power short in May, 1977 with leased units called on to make up for the many PC, EL, LV, RDG, and CNJ units sitting in deadlines or in service lines at Altoona and elsewhere. On this day, May 7, leased power was evident at Enola with SP U-boats, CNW, BAR, and ATSF GP’s helping make up for the shortage. Run through D&H Alco’s were also in the engine terminal. CR blue had become more common, with the “Can opener” replacing some of the PC black and EL gray and maroon. At the electric engine terminal, all the GG-1’s carried CR stencils, that were added early in Conrail’s first year, but many E44’s and E33’s still retained their PC paint. |
